Our HeavyBOS connectors are designed for maximum ruggedness. These are heavy connectors with thick cross sections. They are best for fixed locations where weight is not an issue, but ruggedness is necessary.
The BOS acronym started out as an internal light hearted name that meant bulkhead-on-steroids, due to their massively heavy and strong shells. Eventually customers started calling them BOS as well, so we stuck with that name.
Features & Benefits
Molded Bending Strain Relief
Integrally molded relief that spreads stress over distance, preventing concentrated flexing at the cable/connector joint.
Color Coded Leads
Bulkhead and overmold leads match their mated cable colors, making conductor tracing easier than numbered tags.
Bulkhead Pressure Block
Machined into the metal shell to resist water intrusion during a catastrophic failure.
Reinforced Bulkhead Neck
A heavier, stronger neck resists the head shearing off during aggressive disconnection — a common failure point on other connectors.
Crimped Contacts
Crimped rather than soldered contacts resist bending-fatigue failures better under repeated flexing and cable pull.
Gold Plated Contacts
Plated to ASTM B488-01 Type II for reduced electrical resistance and resistance to atmospheric and saltwater corrosion.
Pin Shoulder Radius
A radiused contact pin and insulation shoulder make mating easier in darkness or rough seas, and reduce fraying at the interface.
HeavyBOS Product Range
HeavyBOS is available in three sizes — 18mm, 22mm, and 32mm — with Female Socket (FS) or Male Pin (MP) contact configurations.
Bulkheads
Bulkhead receptacles mount to your pressure vessel and handle 10,000 psi pressure differential (open face). Available in aluminum, brass, or stainless steel — other materials available by special request.
Inlines
Inline plugs are available as pigtails or molded directly onto your cable. Standard pigtail length is 1 meter; any length can be specified. Plugs into a bulkhead receptacle or another inline connector.
Dummies
Dummy connectors blank off an unused bulkhead receptacle or inline connector, protecting the gold-plated contacts from saltwater exposure.
Locking Sleeves
Not required for operation, but prevent disengagement under cable pulling loads. Available in Delrin, aluminum, or stainless steel.
